Legendary Goalie Calls Time On Germany Career

Neuer Was One Of The First Modern-Day Sweeper Keepers

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has announced his retirement from international football after 15 years and 124 caps.

The 36-year-old, who made his debut in 2009, was part of the Germany team that won the 2014 World Cup.

Neuer is the last member of Germany's 2014 World Cup-winning squad to retire from the national team.

Neuer's Career

Neuer began his career at Schalke 04, where he made his debut in 2006.

He moved to Bayern Munich in 2011, where he has won eight Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokals, and two Champions Leagues.

Neuer has also been named FIFA's Best Goalkeeper five times.

Neuer's Retirement

Neuer announced his retirement from international football on Wednesday, August 21, 2023.

He said that he was "proud" of his time with the national team, but that it was "time to step aside."

Neuer's retirement is a major blow to Germany, who are now without their first-choice goalkeeper.
