Stop & Shop to Close 32 Underperforming Stores, Including 10 in New Jersey
Closures Expected to Occur by November
Edison, NJ Location Among Those Slated for Closure
Stop & Shop, a grocery retail chain, has announced plans to close 32 underperforming stores across the United States, including 10 locations in New Jersey. The Edison, New Jersey Stop & Shop, located at 1083 Inman Avenue, is among the stores scheduled to close in the coming months.
The closures are part of a larger effort by Stop & Shop's parent company, Ahold Delhaize, to improve its financial performance. The company has been struggling in recent years due to increased competition from online grocers and discount stores. The closures will allow the company to focus on its more profitable locations.
All of the affected stores are expected to close on or before November 2024. Stop & Shop employees will be offered severance packages and assistance in finding new jobs. Customers will be able to continue shopping at nearby Stop & Shop locations or online.
